I found only two pieces of information that helped my tree. One is the death of Martha Helton, wife of Allen, daughter-in-law of Joseph and Mattie Colvin Helton.
Martha Helton is listed in the 1880 Mortality Schedule for District 7, Bibb County, AL. She died in Sept. of 1879 (MS related people who died in year preceding May 31, 1880) of malarial fever, treated by Dr. Brand. She was a housekeeper, married, born GA, parents born GA. Had lived in Bibb County 22 years.

Another Helton is listed on the next page of District 7: Sarah Helton. Sarah Helton, a married housekeeper, died in August 1879, of dropsy. She was born in Alabama, and her parents were born in the U.S. This listing ins from Physiscian's Returns. Dr. Brand treated her.
I have to believe she was related to Allen, but I don't know how. She died in the same district as Martha (#7) and was treated by the same doctor (Dr. Brand). But who was she? Not the same as Allen's daughter-in-law Lucinda Frances Leach, who married Joe Helton. She is listed in the 1900 Census. Allen had a daughter Sarah, born about 1842, who disappears after the 1850 Census. But the Sarah Helton who died in 1879 was married, not single, not widowed, not divorced. And Allen's granddaughter, Joe's girl, was too young. So who the heck was this Sarah Helton??????
Oh, boy—more research!
